DEFEATS STANFORD in AMAZING UPSET Two Clever Plays for Only Score, Sterling Defense Win for Lions. |DAsADENA, Calf, January 2. Columbia today still was i the gem Of the ocean-the Pacific or any other for that matter-so far as foot ball fans Of the Western seaboard were concerned. For yesterday, before approx mately $4,000 persons, the Lions wrote the most amazing chapter in Rose Bowl history by defeat ing Stanford 7 to 0. Two great plays plus heads-up defensive foot ball gave Coach Lou Little’s New Workers a victory which made storm-ridden Southern California forget its wet feet, made so by torrential rains before the contest and spasmodic show erS during the game. The touchdown came midway in the second period. Cliff Montgomery. 153pound quarterback, faxed an end run, a play on which he had been consider ably successful up to this point OF the contest But he raced toward the sidelines he turned and unleashed sharp forward pass.
