The records will also show that, some of the other teams have no ties. . However, unaccustomed as I am to Understanding, I have decided that it’s about time to bring the flat heel or common sense system to bear on the ma tional championship in football. This method does not name the champion. It merely asks you to beat team that has just fin ished a schedule, including Mich igan State, Cornell, Ohio State, Chicago, Illinois, Iowa, Mime sofa and Northwestern. At least six other teams sur vived Saturdays games undefeated, the list including Duke, which beat North Carolina State, 7 to o; the Army, which beat the Navy, IL to Z; Minnesota, which beat Wisconsin, 6 to 3, and Centenary, which beat Mississippi, 7 to 6. But these scores only show that the winners were forced to the limit by what was supposed to be inferior oppositon, and in at least two in stances the winners were. in a sense, outplayed. One of them was the Army, which, except for Johnson’s 82-yard run and a long march for a second touch down, was on the defensive all day. The other, Minnesota, could not have won except for a goal line tumble. AS for Princeton, it only welded touchdown for the first time this year in beating Rutgers, 26 to 6, while Louisiana State stayed up with the leading flight by peat ing Mississippi State. 81 to 6: But neither of this pair has played too rigorous a schedule, nor have any of the others by contrast with Michigan. The only exception that might be noted is Minnesota, which has been good and bad by alternate Saturdays. It happened to be good against Michigan week ago and the Wolverine was glad enough to take a tie that day. AS matter of fact, there are any number of defeated teams I’ll match with some or all of the leaders on current form. Tennessee would be one. stan ford, which won the Coast title on Saturday, by beating Califor. MIA, 7 to 3, would be another. Nebraska, winner over Iowa, 7 to 6, is a third and, naturally, Pitt is a fourth.

‘H|CHL|CHTS OF GRID SEASON CHICAGO, Nov. 30. = A few random notes and personal opinions on the football season: Irvine (Cottom Warburton, Southern California IS 147 pound quarterback, is the best college back in the land, pound for pound. Off their games in the midwest, Aaron Rosenberg, Southern Califormia guard, against Notre Dame, and Bill Corbus, Stanford guard, against Northwestern, there is no comparison. It’s Rosenberg by a mile. Pittsburgh, after taking tw o drubbings from Southern Califcrmia, ought to get the Rose Bowl consignment against Stanford, but probably won It. Pitt S record blemished only by 7–3 defeat by Min nesota, is as good as anything in the east, and better than STAN DIS, which includes tie with Northwestern and defeat by Washington. Ossie Solem, Iowa, turned in the best coaching job of the year in bllt dig 1tll. DllliBiliB Illt J1d HhSy from nowhere to first division, and : scoring one of the years big up sets in beating Purdue, 14–6. Bob zuppke, Illinois. wasn’t far /, behind Solem in his accomplish ment at Illinois, missing the title by two one-point defeats, to Mich igan, 7–6, and Ohio State, 7–6. Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois will be the leading contenders for the Big Ten title next year. Minnesota loses only Captain Oen, center. Iowa loses Laws, Schammel and Moore, and a couple of others. Ill inois loses Dave Cook and the two ends, Frink and Schustek, but has a strong bunch of youngsters COM ing up, as have Minnesota and Iowa. Doug Mott, University of Detroit halfback, tutored by Charlie Dorais of the famous Dorais-to-Rock combination, is ranked by many as the country’s greatest passer among 4 the college boys. He has completed passes this year for gains total ing 1887 wards.
