BUT LAuRELs ARE WITH THE U They Pile Up “a Score OF Forty-eigh1 Against the NcrthsieId Boys. The university football aggregation held it’s annual picnic with Carleton yesterday afternoon at Athletic park and kept the country boys busy to the extent of 48 to 6. 1t was the same Old story. however, Carleton managed to dodge a shut-out in the very wind-up of the game. With startling rapidly . the Iong-haired men from the U piled I’D goals and touch-downs until the score was AZ to 0. Then with glori- Gus so to score in sight they slumped and watched Carleton’S doughty little left half run across a clean Held Tor a sensational touchdown, with men like Nelson, Finlayson, Harrison, Cole and Loonlis looking on in a trance. SO Carleton went home with joy in all hearts. while the university cohorts, though rejoicing in the work OF the team, felt the bitter disappointment OF having failed to score a shut-out AGAINST the Carleton boys. The Carleton boys played stiff defensive game, and though greatly out classed they proved themselves to be men of mettle The work of Capt. Donovan. of Stark, and of Goodhue was very fine Goodhue was the little bow that did the sensational 35-yard run that scored a touchdown for Carleton He ploughed his way across the field like a creased pig at Fourth of July celebration. The locals were sadly off at that particular moment, when they should have had their wits about them. Instead of turning Goodhue in when he had his good start. they tried to run him down and tackle him, and he got away from them all. It was a perfect day for the game, and there was a very good crowd OF root ! ers out who cheered the team on with ! several free-foral ski Man shouts. The work of the locals was very pleasing to the critical portion OF the audience, and the enthusiasm was aroused to such a pitch that IT VIII not die out before the next game. The Carleton team was cheered on bya lit tle4 handful of the faithful The visit. ors had only words of praise for the local team and gave three rouslng cheers for the university at the conclusion of the game The game was free from accidents, and not single olsagreeable feature marred the pleasure of the occasion.
