STANFORD DEFEATS TROJANS BEFORE $4,000 WILD FANS Place Kicks Near End Give Jones’ Men First Defeat in 20 Starts Los Angeles, Nov. 13.-(P)-Stanford’s fighting football team outplay- I’d and outscored Southern Califor- MIA before 10000 persons Saturday, to win, Is to Z. and administer the first defeat the Trojans have suffered in 28 games. Not since September, 1881, when st. Mary’s won, 13 to Z. had Southern California suffered a reverse, although the record was spotted by one score less tie with Oregon State this season. The big Red team from Patio Alto crashed III on two field goals from sure footed Bill Corbus in the last four minutes to climax drive by the Indians starting just before the home suard took a first period lead through the medium of 43-yard touchdown gallop by Cotton Warbur- TON. Corpus not only used his right foot to good advantage but played a SEN sational defensive game. There was little doubt in the minds of the great crowd as to the result when Corbus kicked his first field goal, after he had missed two. There was then only four minutes left to play. When he kicked the second there was just one minute left for the Trojans to do something about their record and they could not do it. Stanford completed six passes out of seven attempts and its touchdown came after an overhead attack had advanced the ball to the shadow of the goal posts.
