    T. C. U. CARRIES ON Downs Rice 16–6 in Drive Toward Southwest Crown. HOUSTON, Tex, November 10 Dr. The Texas Christian University eleven continued its steady campaign toward the Southwest Conference foot ball championship here today, downing Rice Institute, 16 to 6, but finding a worthy foe. Rice, for one period-the third played like a champion, pounding the heavy Christian line in T5-yard march, headed by the sophomore back, Bill Wallace, that ended in touchdown when McKinnon took a 23-yard pass over the r. C. U. goal line During most of the game, however, Texas Christian was out of danger.

= 4AVSns Alabama Poly, for instance, practically won the Southern championship on Saturday with it’s 14-to-7 victory over Georgia. But it still must beat South Car olina. Southern California looks the part of a great football team. But just as We’ll know more about Notre Dame after the Army game, we’ll know more about Southern California after it’s game with Notre Dame. Pitt Survives In the same way, Texas Chris tian, winning 16 to 6 from Rice, needs only one more to take the Southwest title. But often one more is too many. Pitt survived, too, by muddling through against Carnegie Tech, but must take on Stanford this week. AS for Brown and Colgate, they’re still unbeaten and united. But on Thurs day they play each other. Michigan, therefore, has dis tinct advantage over the rest of the field. It’s testimony is al ready in and cannot be changed. So is that of Nebraska in win ming the Big Six title; likewise that of Utah for it’s fifth straight championship in the Rocky Noun tains. But, unlike Michigan, neither is an active contender for national championship honorS. Those who are so recognized include Colgate, Alabama Poly, Centenary, Southern California, Michigan and Brown, unbeaten and united; and Texas Christian, tennessee, Purdue, Pittsburgh and Vanderbilt, unbeaten but not united. Sectional Rankings The sectional rankings, accord ing to my nonessential notion, should run something like this today: EAST. Colgate and Brown: Pitts 6urgh 2. Army. Columbia, Pennsylvania, f”rdham. 3: Princeton. Yale. Cornell. :; Navy, n. Y. U, Holy Cross. VilIanova, Temple: West Virginia. w. and J., Car negie Tech, DuquesnP. Dartmouth, Harward. Catholic University. \, Midwest-I. Michigan. 2. Purdue. NOtre Dame. 3. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio State, Nebraska. Michigan state 4. Detroit. Northwestern, Illinois, Mar quette. 5; Chicago, Indiana. 6. Iowa West Coast. Southern California 2: st. Mary’s. U. c. L. A, Washington state, Washington, California, Oregon. 8. stanford.
