Manders and Lund Star AS Gophers| Trim Southerners| Mississippi Is Beaten rs to o in lntersectional Tilt At Minneapolis Minneapolis. Nov. 7.-(F-Minnesofas two big offensive cogs, Pug Lund and Jack Manders. kept up a touchdown per-period pace Saturday to beat down the southern challenge from Mississippi, Is to 0, before $4,000 spectators. Outweighed and outspeeded, Mississippi failed to make serious scoring threat outside Of long-pass Of fensive which died soon after its birth in midfield in the last quarter. The Gophers’ running attack, brilliant throughout the afternoon, CEN tered around Lund. the sophomore halfbacx. who gained 241 yards on 26 plays. before Coach Bernie Bierman called it a days work for him. He accounted for most of the 20 first downs marked up by the Gophers to 4 for Mississippi. The Gophers gain ed SGT yards to Is for the visitors. Circumstances surrounding tn e plays were nearly similar each time the Gophers scored. Lund OH long sweeps around the ends and OH Off tackle spurts brought the ball to with in few yards of the goal and Man. ders would plunge over. This routine was varied once. in the third period, when Lund, after 81 and 15-yard sprints, dashed around right end to finish the drive by scoring himself. Tom Swayzee, Mississippi’s star end and Yazow, contributed an outstanding defensive performance. Hutson. fullback, stopped many Of Manders’ plunges after the big Gopherr fullback had knitted through the Mississippi line.
