WASHTNGT0N, TIMES SPORTS COLONIALSCL|CK IN 21–6 WIN OVER IOWA Eight weeks ago Coach Jim Pixlee, Of George washington University, was confidential with this reporter. Said Jim: “Some day this G. w. out fit of 1882 is going to play up to IS per cent of its capacity for football. When it does, some good team is going to be badly beaten” Well, last night in Griffith Stadium, the G. w. grid outfit Of 1882 played up to 95 per cent of it’s capacity for football. The result is now history. A good Iowa team, but far from the best Iowa has had, was badly beaten. The final count, 81 to 6, does not accurately portray the Superiority Of G. w. The Colonials were Within an eyelaSh of being six touchdowns better than the Hawkeyes. McCarver EIashy That G. w. taem clicked last night. and how! Mig” McCarver proved himself one of the hardest running backs ever to cross a gridiron in Wash. ington. Little Johnny Fenlon proved himself one who can block, when blocking counts. Blackstone proved himself a CEN ter who can play secondary defense with the best of them. Stewart and Pearce, Bill Parrish and Walter Slaird, Chambers, Mulvey and Galloway. FiniS Par riSh and Johnny Baker-they were all stars. There were others, too, in the uniform of G. w. who flashed gridiron prowess that many fans thought beyond their capacity. w ellington will 60 many a day before it will witness such thrilling game as last nights. That was rip-tail-Snorter for acton, if there ever was one. Surely, no person among the 12,- 900 present ever saw a better game, one so packed with thrills and sensations. Pass Helps Immensely In the first quarter the G. W. team clicked to near-perfection, moving the ball down the field 70 yards for a touchdown. The hard-running McCarver, aided by his mates in line and backfield, accounted for most of the yard age. A pass. which netted Is yards, McCarver to Finis Parrish, aided immensely in this march of victory. 1t was the fourth quarter before the Colonials put on enough pres sure to score again. Kriemelmeyer intercepted pass and ran Is yards to Iowa’s 39-yard stripe. Fenlon, playing quarterback, gave a rare exhibition of generalship, and in seven plays drove his team across the Hawkeye goal line for the score which put the game on ice. G. WIS third touchdown follow ed another intercepted pass. Baker grabbed this one and G, w, was AZ yards from the Iowa goal line. In two plays, both passes (the first McCarVer to Galloway, which made II yards; the second, Baker to McCarver, which made 3O), G. w. was across with the ball. Runs Back Punt to Score 1oWa’S lone touchdown was the result of a thrilling 75-yard dash by Laws, halfback, who caught a quick kick at his own 25-yard line, got away from two tacklers, missed going out bounds by inches and then dashed for G. WIS goal line. In negotiating the run he lodged several ColonialS after he had saved himself from going out of bounds. One is quick to accord the G. w. team of last night the high est of praise. Perhaps it would not be amiSS to state that had the best team in the Big Ten been playing G. w. last night, that best team of the Big Ten would nave been hard pressed to defeat the ColonialS. 1t is well to remember that back of last nights victory is the hard work and the conscientious and intelligent effort of group of coaches who have never wavered in their faith in their men, who have never given up hope, who have carefully followed a planned policy of strategy which has finally borne fruit.
