Football Matches Between Many Crack eleyenS Played at Various Points. PENNSYLVANIA GAME WITH INDIANS 0unkcrs Do Some Sensational play. princeton Defeats IInrvnrd’S Crippled Tenn West Point nnd Wesleyan TIE. Philadelphia, Nov. The Pennsylyamans shook off the lctharEy to-day that mas par’isyHed their football playing this season and took the scalp of the Carlisle Indians by score of Il too NOT IN the history of intercollegiate football has there been IL game that had a more sensational and exciting finish than this afternoons contest on Frank lin Field and never has any team given u more superb exhibition of plucky uphill playing III face of defeat and grand line buckinG than did the gallant red skins of Carlisle. After having been unaplr 10 gam throughout the entire game ana having been steadily driven bnck upon their goal, the Indians, with ten minutes left to play. secured the ball on their i0-yard line. GREAT BUCKING Ihcn began the greatest exhibition of iine buckinS ever seen here The Wild ilghtinE blood of the red men was up and .ney pore straight for their white adversaricS goal line. The Indians used mass pay on the tackles ana MctoXcn carried the bail. Again ana again the sturdy full hurled himself against the Quaker line. Strive as they could. Pennsylvania’s line was torn to uioces by the fierce and desperate assault upon II. Surely but steadily Mctoxcn carried me piEskin To Pennsylvania 20-ynrd line Here the Quakers made n stand and secured the ball on downs. The teams lined up and the ball was passed To Minds for a kick y WILD SCENE. The Quaker full-back lost his head and did not even touch the ball. but threw II clear away from his foot into the line or men in front of him. An Indian fell ON 1t. Two plunges and MctoXen and III. Pierce carried the ball To PennsyIva- MAS lO-yard line. Cayou went around the left and for five yards Then no la in II nd by OVerileld two yards from the coveted chalk line. II was the first down and II looked as If nothing could save n touch down From thousands of Pcnnsylynman throats came the appealing cry. Hold them, Pen” Straight into the mass of men MetoXcn plunged The line hcld, but none could tell if beneath that mass OF men the Indian back had gone over for touchdown. y wild shout rent the air when the players were pull cd of each other and Metoxcn was seen lying with the ball. but not over the Eual line. There were still two downs ana one inch To gain. Not a sound arose rom l”OO0 people as the men lined up. IL was grim Grapple, and not one of those twenty-five men but would have broken a limb or even his neck To make or save the touchdown. The Quakers crouchcd close to the ground like so many wild beasts waiting to spring. With clcnchcd teeth and fierce faces the l’‘‘i”‘i9 4HiIci themselves upon their foes. AN AWFUL CRUSH. There was an awful crush and sway ing oi lighting men and then the human mass Went down in heap. Again came mat dead silence as the men sullcnlv rolled on each other i’m response To the referees whistle. Then again that triumphant shout arose. for the white men had met the onslaught and Metoxen- had again been stopped right on the line one more chance remained As MetoXcn dashed into the line the Quaker rushers hcaved forward and threw the entire team back, and the touch down was lost by six inches Ihcn the referees whistle blew and the game Wl.: over paudcmonium broke loose, ana their fel ow students swarmeh over the ground and nearly tore the Quakes to pieces in the endea- Nor ia congratulate them. Pennsylvania’s play throughout was q revelation as compared with their previous work this year They played fast. fierce football, and bucked the Indian lre for steady gains throughout. But II is evident that Pennsylvania will not have strong full back lhis year. as Minds Kicking. while much improved WAS siill very weak. The Indians played their usual strong and s’eady game. but at no time were they possible winners.
