form does a dive upon its dand Rated off the bare results of Saturday, one is inclined to SuS, pect that Michigan, after it’s Is to defeat of Northwestern, is the team they’ll have to beat in the big ten conference; that Yale, playing its second tie in as many games, is not so good, that Chicago, it’s to 7 opponent, is liable to be much better; that Tulane may not be the team they thought it was and that California. after its IL to II tie with st, Mary’S, is nobody’S fool; that Notre Dame has another tremendous machine, with Texas fairly bristling with power in its IS to 0 defeat of Missouri. The performance clearly indi- Gated that Texas either is very good or Missouri is very bad, al though it could be both. Anyhow, you don’t score IS points agoinst a lot of vigorous young men OF equal opportunities and desired, without having something besides the right idea. Notre Dame also had to have more than that to beat Haskell by 73 to 0, for it started with its second team and finished with it’s fifth. Conspicuous Returns These were the conspicuous returns from a day that ran itself little dizzy into the top figures. Fordham scored 80 points to present Bucknell with its first defeat in three seasons. Colorado rolled up 26 points on Utah Aggies, Texas Christian beat Arkansas by “a to II, the surprising Virginia Poly outfit rolled over Maryland by % to 0, Wisconsin amaSSed “a points again Iowa, Pittsburgh 33 points against Duquesne, Harvard 40 points against New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania 54 points against Swarthmore. AS for Tulane and Georgia, both went mildly insane in a 34-to-25 victory for Tulane, the losing Bulldogs trying CALAMITY to retrieve their disaster of the previous Saturday. At that, they did right well, Scoring II points in the final period to re-enact the stirring little drama they put on here against N. Y. U. a few years ago. Alabama showed it’s usual punch with a % to 6 decision over George Washington and Tennessee again looked the part of a championship contender with it’s 20 to 7 victory over North Carolina. Columbia won by the same score from Princeton, mean time proving not very much except that Columbia can beat Princeton. Scoring Orgies Strangely, the orgy of free scoring was not extended to southern California, always the great power house of the Far West. 1t had to go off the ground, in fact, to beat Oregon State, 10 to 0, and considering the Trojan resources, this speaks very well for Oregon State. California’S tie with st. Mary’s and Stanford’s IA to 0 defeat of Santa Clara indicate that the little boys out there are going to be good little boys this year, the Gaels and Santa Clara having been touted pretty reSolutely. Meantime, the indicated author ity in the Big Six was displayed by Oklahoma and Nebraska, respectively, over Kansas and Iowa State, particularly after what happened to Missouri, while returning to the Big Ten we find Purdue still doing all right with its 7-to-0 victory over crippled and Ohio State prob ably doing no better than could be expected with it’s tie against Indiana. Southern Methodist lost to Rice by 13 to 0, and Ohio Wesleyan scored the major upset of the day with it’s 19-to-12 defeat of SYRIA cuse, while Kentucky tackled a 12to-6 defeat on Georgia Tech. AS for Yale, it should have lost to Chicago, but somehow did not, it’s supreme indifference of the moment is shown by the fact that Bates, with which it played scoreless tie, lost to Tufts by two touchdowns. AS for Nevada and and Utah, they finished in a 6-to-6 tie and the jury is still out. nrINuTcMCM cCODc
