GRID TEAMS NEAR HOME STRETCH Head Football Coach at Harvard) BOSTON, Nov. l6.-Footbau teams throughout the country are nearing the home stretch. The season has been productive of some great games, and some good teams. Tulane and Tenn essee in the South, Southern Methodist in the Southwest, Southern California on the Pacific Coast, and Notre Dame and Northwestern in the midwest, are the outstanding teams in their sections. Seldom have there been SO many good teams in the East. Though Harvard alone Of the major teams is undefeated and united, many other teams have grand records. That must have been a superb Pittsburgh team which defeated Army, $50. The same should hold of Colgate which defeated Syracuse, 21.7. Fordham is undefeated. Dart mouth is just starting to feel its power. New York University is strong, and I expect that Yale will be ne Of the best teams Of the year when it meets Harvard in the stadium on Saturday. Two Important Games Two games of major interest ahead of the football world this week are the Southern Califor. nia-Notre Dame game at South Bend, and the Harvard–Yale game at Cambridge. Both Notre Dame and Harvard have some thing to worry about from their strong visitors. Probably the only game of last week which was regarded as an upset, and this from a stand point of outstanding contests, was the Dartmouth-Cornell game. Cornell had gone to Hanover un. defeated, but unfortunately had not played a schedule of hard games. It is my opinion that the Dart mouth team was made in its two hard games with Yale and Harvard on successive Saturdays, which proved to be a potentially powerful big green team that 1t could score and could keep the other fellow from. scoring. Dart mouths line was much stronger against Harvard than it was expected to be, and it did fine lob against Cornell, Extolls Phil O’Connell Harvard opposed a fine foot. ball player on Saturday, namely, Capt. Phil O’Connell, quarterback of Holy Cross. This boy is good passer and a good kicker. He led one of the best Holy Cross teams that ever has played in the stadium. Harvard won, 10, but was forced to play its “a” team right through to win this game, even at the risk of injuries going into the Yale game. Harvard came through nicely and expects to be at full strength against Yale. Generally the Saturday contests ran true to form, although the margin Of Pittsburgh’s vic. tory over Army was surprising. Pitt. beaten by Notre Dame, enhances the prestige of Coach Anderson’s team by it’s decisive win over the Army. Northwestern was expected to do better against Indiana than win by a point. Washington and Lees 60 vic tory over Princeton was not unexpected, and for the first time in history a Princeton team will go into the Yale bowl a week from Saturday, looking back upon six straight defeats. Tulane’S Hopes High Tulane’s POT win over Georgia, hitherto undefeated, came in a game between two outstanding teams. Tulane has played beau tiful football all season and hopes to be selected to oppose Southern California in the Rose Bowl game at Pasadena. Another undefeated Southern team is Tennessee, which, with Gene McEver leading the way turned back Vanderbilt. 21–7. Many Automobile Repair Services are | RnSinaSS SRPUiFA

Three other eastern teams with fine records are Columbia, Cornell and Pennsylvania, each having but a single defeat, like Pitt, Penn’s lone loss resulted from meeting Notre Dame.
