WISCONSIN FOOLED BY RED AND BLUE Badger FumbIeS NulIify Big First Down Margin as Quakers Win, 27–13. h1lSAOELE k11As I’d OCCObSA - 24.-Pennsylvania’s high 4 voltage foot ball machine, striking swiftly and with deadly precision served notice on Its Eastern contemporaries today by defeating a powerful Wisconsin team, ~ to Is, before $4,000 spec tators at Franklin Field. Favored beforehand to take beat ing from the Western eleven, which last week was strong enough to humble Purdue. the alert Red and Blue team completely turned the tables, scoring at times with ridiculous ease and run ming up a 27-to-0 score before the Badgers collected themselves to gain two touchdowns late in the contest. sAll four of PENIS touchdowns came swiftly, Unexpectedly, two OF them on brilliant runs from midfield by Carl Perina, big fullback, and Jerry Ford, reserve halfback. The other two resuited directly from the alert play OF the Penn forwards, who recovered tumble and q blocked punt deep In Wis consin territory. The Red and Blue at no time wasted its energy trying to make q sustained drive down the field. 1t was not necessary as long as Wis consin was fumbling every few minutes. If there was any solace to be gained by Wisconsin It lay in the fact that its hard-running backs, led by Russ Rebholz. piled up IL first downs to 3 for Penn. The winners, however, gained 1876 yards from scrimmage, COM pared to 1876 for Wisconsin. The losers gained 81 yards on four passes, two OF which led directly to their touch downs. Perina’s Punts Help. Sadly outclassed in their punting department, where Rebholz couldn’t match the long spirals Of Perina, Wis conein found itself ut q disadvantage ali the way, forced to start all Of its drives deep in its own territory. The Badgers time and again plugged along TO midfield or beyond, but until late TO the air. they begged down before they could get within scoring distance. Penn, taking advantage Of the breaks that gave It the ball in Wisconsin ter ritory, was able to run up the score with quick thrusts at its opponents goal line. Perina gave the Red and Blue its first touchdown midway OF the opening period when he shot his 205 pounds off tackle, shook on pair who hoped 70 down him and raced 43 yards down the sideline. A tumble by Rebholz OF one Of Perana’s punts Just before the first period ended gave Penn an opportunity to score its second. The ball was gobbled up bv George Munger, Penn halfbeck, on Wisconsin’s 20-yard stripe and it was only matter Of three plays until Munger passed to Onderdonk for the touchdown. Ford Makes 51-Yard Run. Ford brcke through the center of the Bsdgers’ line to romp 81 wards for ar other score q minute before the half ended. Colehower, big right tackle, contributed the winners final touchdown in the third period, when he blocked Rebholtz’s punt on the Badgers 20 yard line, caught 1t on the first bounce and trotted across the goal line. It was not until then, when 1t found atself trailing hopelessly that Wisconsins fighting eleven decided TO- make contest Of It. Starting from their own 95-yard line, the Western huskies forged straight down the grass for rs yards and Q touchdown. A S0-yard pass from SCHNEIDER to Schiller put the ball in scoring position on PENIS one-foot line. and on the first play, Linfor swept around right end tn cross the goal. Less than a minute of play remained when the Badgers. in parting gesture, sailed SIS yards in two dazzling plays for their second score The first. pass from Stran to Elli’ler planted the oval on PENIS l0-verd lire The second. q double mass behind the line. saw Kun dert slip eff tackle for a touchdown.
