Climb to ranking as co-favorites of Harvard and Columbia were based upon well-earned but sur- prising victories over the Army and Dartmouth. Led by Barry Wood, Harvard stunned a record crowd at West Points Michie Stadium in winning 14–1s. Wood accounted for two forward passes which made the Harvard touchdowns, and scored the vital extra points. Out of The Sky. Columbia surprised even its most ardent well-wishers by win ming with consumate ease over an apparently over-rated Dartmouth eleven. The fine play on offense and defense by Ralph Heweitt ac- counted for Columbia’s 1926 vic tory. New York University won rela- lively easy game over Rutgers, 27- z, and now faces a stiff schedule, meeting Colgate, Oregon, Georgia, Fordham and Carnegie Tech. Pittsburg, with a record of four victories over slightly regarded foes will meet Notre Dame at South Bend on Saturday. Pitt downed Western Reserve, 32–0. Three Thirty-Threes. Another record was kept clear when Cornell, led once again by Bart Viviano, veteran star back, humbled Princeton. 33–0. Colgate and Syracuse, two splendid New York state teams, also survived. Colgate downed Manhattan. 33–0. Syracuse beat Flo ida, 33–12. Fordham lost some prestige by being held to 6–6 tie with Holy Cross, but the rams should be able to round out a creditable season for their remaining games. Only the one with N. Y. U. offers any real danger. Easier Games Ahead. Army and Dartmouth, victims of so called upsets, were the chief sufferers of the weekend. Each however has a representative sche- due yet to be played, and may climb back to dominance. Other results of Saturday in- cluded: Navy 12. Delaware 2; Penn 32, Leh;gh O; W. and J. 13.
