The Minnesota football team are commencing to play their old time game. That with Purdue yesterday resulted in their favor. and was a splendid exhibition of endurance and skill. From start to finish the game was closely contested, and the number of killed and wounded showed the earnestness with which both sides worked for the honor of the institution they represented. Football played that way is the best game on earth. to the opinion of the average college boy or girl The score stood IA to in favor of the local giants, ample satisfaction for hard drubbing received last year at Lafayette. Yesterday was an ideal day for foot ball The sky was clear, and, although the air was sharp, it was none too cool for the players, and the spectators We’re able to keep comfortable from their enthusiasm at the good plays of their faVorites. The crowd numbered close up to $500, and the game deserved twice that number The grand stand was filled on the line side, the bleachers were also packed. The audience included a large sprinkling Of the fair sex, and, while they were not as loud in their enthusiasm as the boys, they were fully as interested. and probably knew what was going on as well. The crowd included old players by the score, and men who claim to understand the game from past col lege experience. These were the fell lows who did the heavy yelling, either when good gains were made or when there was a tumble. The crowd were upon the whole good natured. and were standing up a good part of the time cheering a favorite. There was little cause for jeering the opposing players. as the Purdue men did and do play a gentlemenly game of football They play stiff game, but there is none OF the throttling of, or jumping upon, downed player. The game lacked somewhat in the amount of fumbling done on the Min neSota Side and in the sloWness of their playing. The Purdue men, so far as the science of the game is concern ed, are fully the equals of the Mime sofa fellows, and when they have the ball they play much faster. But the Minnesota line was stone wall to them. except occasionally when a prod was made on Ffnlayson’s side. and
