OREGON CRABS VICTORY FROM WASHINGTON U Webfooters Defeat Huskies B to 0 in Final Period SEATTLE. Oct. 12-On the wings of a dazzling 87-yard non- stop flight down the Washington stadium went the University of Washington’s hopes for a Pacific Coast championship Saturday aft ernoon, when Bill Bowerman, sub stitute Oregon end, landed safely behind the Husky goal line. Final score, Oregon 13, Washington O. Oregon snatched victory in the dying minutes of play when Wash ingtons was driving like mad under the shadow of the Oregon goal line. turning a possible tie into a clean cut victory. Both Oregon scores came in the last period, the first on a one-foot line buck by Lillard negro halfback, after ground-gain- ing line bucks and forward passes had put the ball in scoring po- sition. Washington then took a brace and started determined drive to- ward the Oregon goal. Hufford passed on the third down, but the ball sailed into the outstretched arms of Bowerman, standing on the 13-yard line, who tore straight down the side lines 87 yards for touchdown. The other three periods saw both teams in scoring positions but in tercepted passes stopped most oi them. Otherwise Washington hac the advantage in those quarters. Oregon defeated Washington al Portland last year, 60, so Satur- days game marked the second suc- cessive victory of Coach Doe Spears over Coach Jimmy Phelan former rivals in the Big Ten Con- ference.
