WEST IS SUPREME OVER EAST TEAMS Notre Dame Stands Out High Above All Other EleYenS New York, Dec. ] (UP) - Sat- urday’s football games, in addition to proving that the current Notre Dame eleven is just about the smoothest article seen in these United States in many a year. cleared away any doubt that might have existed regarding the middle and far wests’s supremacy over the east. The east, once the center of the football world, sent five teams, in cludng it’s two best, against the middle and far west on Saturday and was handed five defeats for its what the boys sometimes jokingly refer to as unanimous. Army and Dartmouth. both undefeated Tn their own section were the two east ern leaders to go down. Army bowed to Notre Dame and Dartmouth to Stanford. Notre Danes victory stamped the Irish as real champions, for champions, in any field of sport. pay no attention to the weather. The frozen turf of Soldiers field was not best suited to Notre Danes fast and shifty attack, but the Irish went ahead and played their game. The other three eastern losers Villanova, Temple and Georgetown were not leaders in their sections, but they were representatives Of thls side of the country. Nillanova was defeated by Washington State Is to 0. Temple fell 49 to 20 before Drake, land Georgetown was a l2 to 0 loser to Detroit. Of the three, Nillanova deserves the most credit. Outweighed ten or IS pounds to the man, and opposed by the best team on the Pacific coast, the Philadelphians waged a gallant battle. On more than one oc- casion. the light Villanova line. deep in it’s own territory, repulsed the big coast eleven. Western Maryland’s Green Ter TOTS. undefeated since 1928, whipped Muhlenberg 25 to 0; Vanderbilt trimmed Maryland 22 to ‘; Texas Christian defeated Southern Metho- dist IS to 0, and Holy Cross defeated Boston College 10 0 in Saturday s other feature games.
