ALABAMA-GEORG|A TUSSLE TOPS LIST Unbeaten Crimson Tide to Be Under Strain-Mercer Has Two Stars. Foot Ball Coach, Vanderbilt University. n NASHVILLE, Tenn, November nj 24.-The most colorful game in the South Satur- day was between Oglethorpe and rcer’ both s. l. A. A. We have been told that Jody Matt, Mercer halfback, has more drive than any halfback seen in the South this wear and that Bob Smith, MERGERS 19year-old 210-pound center, is one OF the South’s great linemen. Two to nothing, the margin OF Mer- GERS victory, gave the spectators the thrill Of the only score Of this kind In an important game In the South this season. In the game between Vanderbilt and Auburn Vanderbilt showed Improvement and Auburn Is slowly but surely advancing. She was entitled to a little closer score than 27–0 and with little more experience soon will be up among the best teams In the South. Thanksgiving Rivalries. There were q few conference games, South Carolina gaining q very Satisfactory victory over North Carolina State. Most of the leading teams were idle In preparation for Thanksgiving, when the following games will be played: Kentucky Tennessee, Louisiana–Tulane, Mississippi Mississippi A. g. M, North Carolina Virginia, v. p. Nv. M. L, Duke-Washington & Lee, Auburn South Carolina, Florida–G Georgia Tech. But the greatest contest will be in Birmingham between Alabama and Georgia, two Of the strongest teams in the country. There are probably not more than six or eight teams anywhere In America as good as these two. Alabama labors under the strain OF a season united and undefeated. This amounts to considerable. How great this strain can be was plainly shown in the Auburn-Vanderbilt game. Both teams thoroughly enjoyed the contest because each had been defeated. The players felt free to do as they saw best without being conscious that q single mistake in Judgment or single misplay would mar a seasons record (Copyright, 1880, by North American News paper Alliance.)
