    # POINTS FOR MICHIGAN Conquered in both its major starts to date by one-touchdown margins, Harvard, is rallying its forces for the intersectional game with Michigan a week from Sat. urday. This battle between the present leaders of the Big Ten Confer. ence and the mighty, albeit It wi &c e,beaten Crimson eleven, promises to be one of the out. standing gridiron classics of the year. Indications already point to the Harvard stadium being sold out for the game Coach Horween has a game with William and Mary >scheduled for his Cantabs this Saturday, but the Southerners are not expected to provide the Crimson with much opposition. The prob abilities are that Harvard’s sec ond-stringers will attend to the Virginians, with the regulars see ing only enough action to Keep in shape. Michigan, which has beaten Purdue, Ohio State and Illi- nOis on successive week-ends since being held to q score less tie by Michigan State, has an open date on its sched- ule for next Saturday. The gap in the schedule was pur- pOseIy arranged to enable the Wolverines to go into their game with the Cantabridgi- ans in perfect shape. Harry Kipke’s team has been the surprise of the Middle West, if not of the entire country, this fall. Conceded only an outside chance of finishing among the first three in the Western Conference, the Wolverines have confounded their critics and amazed the experts by playing unbeatable ball against their conference rivals. The one-point victory they scored over Purdue three weeks ago has worked miracles with the Michiganders. They showed i’m presSive strength against Ohio State at Columbus and then fol lowed that up with a well-earned 15–7 victoyr over Illinois at Ann ArDor. Not having any game sched- uled this week end, the Michi- gan eleven will invade Cam bridge as leader Of the Big Ten championship race. A victory over the Wolverines would carry with it all the pres tige which always attaches to win over a Western Conference leader, and would more than atone to Harvard for the 10 and u defeats chalked up against it’s record by the Army and Dartmouth. To beat the Wolverines, Arnold Horween, Harvard’s head coach, is we’ll aware that he must check Harry Newman, Michigan’s newest quarterback sensation, and ways and means of stopping this sec ond Bennie Friedman” are occupy ing much of the attention of the Harvard coaches this week. Newman, a sophomore, has flashed across the Big Ten foot ball horizon this fall with brillance which promises to equal, If not eclipse, the blazing light which the great Friedman left behind him when he graduated from the Ann Arbor institution. The Wolverine field-general, whose mighty arm and accurate toe brought him instant recogmilton in the upset of Purdue, heaved two passes in the Illinois game which were taken behind the goal-line for Michigan touch downs, and in addition booted a clean place-kick through the bars for the first Michigan score of it’s kind this season. In addition, the Second-year man displayed great generalship in marShaling his forces. The Harvard scouts who watched him at Ann Arbor rate almost on a par with Friedman at throwing passes, and give him a shade over the great Benny in drop-kicking. He doesn’t do much ball-carrving. but when he does call his own number he knows how and where tN on with tho holI
