SOUTHERN ELEVENS ID PLAY IN NORTH Georgia to Appear Against Yale Team This Saturday New York, Oct. LR-The south ern conference sends two potent rep resentatives this week to challenge formidable eaatern football elevens in their own back yards. At New Haven. Conn, on Satur- day the Georgia Bulldogs will try to repeat their 1915 15 to 0 triumph over Yale. and at Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech clashes with Carnegie Tech in the sections other outstand- ing intersectional battle of the day. There is strong probability that the Ellis will gain revenge this year. Not that Georgia is weak. but Yale’s spectacular 40–13 triumph over Maryland on Saturday not only pro- vided Albie Booth with an oppor- tunity to star but seemed to indi- cate that Nal Stevens has developed quite some football team at New Haven. Carnegie Tech has rolled up 127 points against its first two tests against minor opposition and the plaid apparently has power to burn. Georgia Techs crushing 45–0 victory over South Carolina is indication that the Engineers must be reckon ed with no matter with whom they play. Two other southern conference teams also will invade the north but Virginia is conceded little chance to stop Penn and Washington and Lee do not seem to rank on par with West Virginia. Navy to Face Notre Dame Eastern college figure in half a dozen other intersectional clashes Navy goes west to meet Notre Dame at South Bend with little hope of victory; Pitt meets Western Reserve at Cleveland; and Washington and Jefferson battles Wittenberg. a strong Ohio outfit at Springfield. o. On Friday night. Loyola of Chi cago takes the field against Du- quesne at Pittsburgh; Davis and FL kins. already beaten twice. faces Mt Union at Alliance, O.; Grove City tackles John Carroll at Cleveland; Oglethorpe invades New York for a game with Manhattan, and Wake Forest takes on Baltimore. Princeton vs. Brown So far as Saturdays purely intra- sectional games go. Princetons clash with Brown will attract principal in- terest. The Tigers played alert foot ball in beating Amherst, 23–0, and uncovered two backfeld finds in Jack James and Stan Purnell. They may obtain revenge for the 13–12 beating they accepted at Browns hands a year ago although the Bruins showed improved form on Saturday. Villanova’s defeat by Gettysburg will leave the Philadelphians under dogs in their coming battle with New York university and Colgate will be highly favored over an under par Lafayette eleven although this pair have put up some gruelling battles in the past. Another even struggle looms be- tween Temple at Bucknell, but most of the other major teams will con- tinue to-meet minor opposition. Harvard’s next foe will be Spring field; Army meets Swarthmore, and Syracuse taken on Rutgers. :. There is hardly the element of contest in such games as Cornell l-Hampden- Sydney; Columbia Wesleyan; Dart mouth Boston university: Holy Cross Catholic; and Penn State- Marshall.

mans hopes, 81 to 0, while Harward overwhelmed Vermont and the Coast Guard School Eleven in a twin bill. Colgate, Syracuse, Cornell, Brown, Pennsylvania, Pitt and Penn State turned in conventional scores against comparatively weak opponents. Cornell’s 61-to-14 WIN over Niagara showed indications that Gil Dobie is busy again with a threat of one of his University of Washington elevens, undefeated, when he was coach there, for nine or ten years. In the South, Duke trOunced Virginia 81 to 0, Georgia Tech surprised with a As to 0 smashing of South Carolina and Texas Chris tian registered complete as tOnishment when held to scOreless tie by Simmons. There is a certain satisfaction from Maryland’s standpoint that Yale had to call upon Albie Booth to save the day. Booth is truly one individual of great football flesh. Every time he took the hall Saturday he gained Yards of great proportions while his deft passes to his team mate, AL Beane, spelled touchdowns aid ruin to Maryland. Hail to Booth, the Incompatible, the thorn to Maryland last Saturday. It was truly a great game between Maryland and Yale last Saturday at the Yale bowl. The score of 40 to 13 in favor Of the Bulldogs doesn’t tell the battle the Old Liners put up. Yet they were defeated be- cause of a superior power in the stretch. Maryland made the most of it’s chief weapon, the passing attack in the game. Coach Byrd’s men completed Is of % attempts to Yale’s four in Is tries. But Yale, aided by Booths great work, gained 329 yards to Maryland’s s 149 in rushing the ball. Yale made 16 first downs, Maryland. IL.
