FORDHAM DEFEATS BUCKNELL, “A TO Q Rams Close Season Unbeaten After a Mighty Battle at Polo Grounds. BY the Associated Press. N YEW YORK, November ga N mighty Fordham foot ball team fought of the desperate chal- 1 lenge of powerful Bucknell eleven to win by score OF Il to o. before a crowd of $4,000, at the Polo Grounds this afternoon and finish their season indicated. The great defensive OUTFIT developed by the famous iron major” Frank Cavanaugh, stopped the Bison attack. led by the hard-running and versatile fullback, Clark Hinkle, and in rapid succession in the third period punched over q pair of touchdowns. Fordham Tailed first on a perfect forward pass play that covered nearly half the length of the field and followed it up by blocking a Bucknell punt, recovering on the three-yard line and sweeping around the enemy right end for the second score. Fordham needed all its defensive genius to stop Hinkle and company in a great fourth period bid. Once the Maroon took the ball on downs on its l3-yard line after Norman Ross, sub stitute quarterback, had caught pass for a 32-yard gain and Hinkle, who halls from Toronto. Ohio, had torn through tackle for % more. Even more disappointing to Bucknell followers was the end of the next march which fell an inch short of a touchdown after travelling so yards, Slate being felled almost on the line after taking a short pass on fourth down. Fordhams wild rooters went so far as to tear down their own goal posts in celebrating the brilliant season that has seen the Maroon conquer, among others, New York University, Holy Cross, Boston College and Bucknell. The rec ord shows seven victories, no defeats. and ties by Davis-Elkins and West Virginia.
