TULANE DESERVES HIGH GRID RANKING Shows Power in Decisive Win Over Georgia Tech-Dixie -. Done Upset. Vanderbilt University root Hau Coaeh. “A ASHvIILE, Tenn, October az Two things happened in South ern foot ball Saturday which, / to the average spectator, are utterly inexplicable. Here was Georgia Tech, with her great record and with q great achievement against Flor ida one week aRo,. three touchdowns behind less than 80 minutes after the Tulane game began. And down at jacksonville the Unive-sity of Georgia, fresh from an over whelming victory over Yale and decisive win over North Carolina during the preceding two weeks, trailing Flor ida by three toiichdowns until almost the end of the game. - Georgia Tech is not yet well organ lied. Her first eleven has developed in good shape, as was indicated by her very decisive victory over Florida. She started the Tulane game without the services Of two outstanding men, Thorn aSon and Maree, who were suffering from injuries. Tech No Weakling. Let no one be deceived regarding the strength in the Tech team. Three touchdowns behind, with six minutes left to play, Tech had the spirit and the ability TO score two touchdowns. NOIW1tIlSldIl0lllk which was not first class, she was meet ing q wonderful team. Everybody knew Tulane had a powerful backfield, with brilliant men in Banker and Armstrong, and great speed in all her backs, but nobody knew our Irish friend Bierman had developed a powerful, skillful line and ends. Tulane must now be placed In the general neighborhood Of the great teams. Tulane is likely now to be one Of the few teams to 60 through her season I’M defeated, although Russell Cohen and his Louisiana State University can be taken lightly by nobody. Dope Is Upset. And thus We find ourselves in the Southern Conference, before 1.-The ides Of November” have rolled around, with only one of the five teams the experts put at the head of the table remain ing undefeated-namely the University of Tennessee. And that team now shows no apparent intention Of being defeated, playing the same brilliant game Saturday after Saturday. Among the other undefeated uni Versities is Kentucky, which has fine team undoubtedly. but has not played a schedule of strong teams thus far. The Louisiana State University is brilliant, but has not been playing the best teams. Clemson is undefeated and has been playing some hard games and quite a number of them, and, with the exception of Tennessee, has the best and most consistent record in the conference. Tulane, because OF her aston ishing brilliancy against Tech, must be given high place. Vanderbilt is the only other outfit undefeated by conference teams. While Vanderbilt has not had a hard confer ence schedule so far, it Is making ur for it now by tackling Alabama, Georgia Tech and Tennessee in succession and after seeing Alabama play Saturday It Is difficult for me to understand how Alabama lost a foot ball game While Vanderbilt is playing Alabama and Georgia Tech, Tennessee will be meeting Auburn and Carson Newman (Copyright, 1879, By North American News paper Alliance.)
