NEBRASKA IS LUCKY TO BEAT SYRACUSE Grange Is Nosed Out, 7 to 6, Despite Consistently Bril- liant Air Game. LINCOLN, Nebr, October 20.-A plucky cornhusker foot ball team which took advantage of the breaks, played inspired foot ball at times, but for the most part was overshadowed by the brilliance of the Syracuse aerial game as featured by Baysinger and Stevens, defeated the New Workers today, to 6. Loucks, reserve halfback, rushed in to kick the goal after the Syracuse touch down, was the goat, his placement attempt which would have given SYRIA cuse the tie it deserved, being wide. Stevens redeemed his first period tumble later by his pass receiving and crafty running, but that bobble led 20 the Nebraska touchdown before the game was minutes old. On the first play Stevens let the oval get away from him and the ever alert Blue Howell covered it on the Syracuse 28-yard line The HuSkerS rushed Howell and White repeatedly into the Syracuse line and finally called for a pasS-Witte to Sloan-which brought the lone touch down. White made good the kick from placement. BaysiEger Strong Passer. Following that touchdown; Hal Bay singer, the brilliant captain and quarterback of the Orange team, got hold of the ball for the first time and from then until the final HuSker drive near the end of the game, passes-long, accurate heaveS-f1lled the air. Those losses materialiZed into a score late in the second period-a double pass from Sebo to Baysinger to Lewis bringing touch down. The yardage gained by passes tossed by the sturdy right arm Of BaySinger probably totaled twice the length of the playing field. Howell, fullback and CO. captain of Nebraska. gained more than 100 yards individually by his running. Stevens, who caught most of Baysinger’s heaves, many times was not downed until two or three HuskerS nabbed him. Mcbride, who replaced Howell late ir the game, made some dazzling runs in his few minutes service. Witte did good punting for the Huskers. These men stood out beside two evenly matched lines which battled grinly through a long-drawn-out contest. delayed by in complete passes, penalties and injuries. Nebraskas win gave the West victory In the first big intersectional game with the East this season. 1t also evened the game count between the two schools each having won three.
