WIN OF NAVY TEAM GIVES LITTLE HOPE ANNAPOLIS, October 22.-The Naval Academy’s bare and somewhat lucky victory over Duke Saturday by a score of 6 to 0 has done little to restore conf dence in the foot ball team, already beaten and held scoreless in three games. The victory Is laid to the fact that Duke probably is weaker than any of the three teams which the Navy met previously and not on account of any improvement in the local eleven. The Navy team was expected to set a pace Saturday that would indicate a new start and give its friends hope that It would acquit itself creditably against Pennsylvania next Saturday and it’s other remaining opponents. 1t was impossible to see improvement In any line in the Navy team, and on the contrary, all the old faults-failure to open holes by the linemtn and gen. eral lack Of dash and lodging ability on the part of the backs-were just as much in evidence as in the past. It Is also notable that the Naval team appears to have failed completely to develop passing game which will supplement and relieve the running at tack. This Is strange, as Ingram’s teams In the two previous years have been adopts in this line of play. The Navy team failed most miserably with its passing Saturday, and was never able to save the ball by means of this play. Thus, the Duke secondary defense was able to devote itself more completely to stopping the running playS
