RICEDEFEAT TIGERS 2O-6 Take Well Earned Vic tory From Trim ity Eleven HOUSTON. Oct. 13.-(R-Changing form to better the miserable showing made last week when st. Edwards Tailed a 81 to o victory over them the Rice Owls today scored a well earned 20 to 6 win over Coach Barry Holton’s Trinity Tigers. A fighting line and charging back field raced through for long gains and a sensational aerial attack car ried the Tigers off their feet. Rice’s forward passing was one Of the best exhibitions shown by an Owl eleven in several seasons. The fighting spirit was instilled in the Owl squad by Coaches Rothgeb, Daugherty and Schultz during the past week and the Blue and Grey eleven took the field determined to avenge the trouncing handed them by a Texas conference team. Although held scoreless in the first quarter, the Owls gained much ground and then, making the breaks and taking advantage of them, Rice pushed over a brace Of touchdowns in the second period of play. Payne scooted around end for one of the scores while Spud Braden made a remarkable catch Of a long pass from Allnoch, shook off would be tecklers and raced over the line for the other score. Trinity’s lone touchdown came as the result Of a blocked pass which was recovered by Cochran before il touched the ground. Cochran, after batting the ball into the air pulled it down and stepped the remaining Is yards in nothing flat for the score. Cochran may be a husky lineman. but when a touchdown is in view he can show plenty of speed. Rice Tailed in the fourth period. The aerial attack with Ables on the starting end and the eligible men for all of them were taking passes Saturday-on the other end, the Owls corked the ball deep into Trim ity’s territory. kennedy then opened an attack on the center Of the line that brought gain after gain and he finally spilled off left tackle for the final score of the game. Trinity’s score was made in the third quarter and in that period the Tiger held a slight advantage over the Owls. Rice seemed 10 let down after the half, taking the 10 point margin as a safe affair but that thought was soon erased.
