OLD RIVALS TO SETTLE GRID SCORES THURSDAY most the sole attention of both uni versities from the beginning of the season until the end. Vanderbilt and Sewanee also are listed at Nashville, and there is nothing more bitter for Vanderbilt than a defeat by Sewanee and nothing SO sweet for Sewanee as q victory. Games in Other Sections. In other sections, also, are to be played great games. Up in Philadelphia the Cornell eleven makes it’s an nual appearance, this year against what appears to be a much stronger Pennsylvania team. But if there is one game in which there seems a chance of a great upset this is the one. Down in Texas the Texas Agricul. tural and Mechanical College and Uni. versity of Texas have a game that is OF about the same importance to them that the Penn.Cornell game Is to Penn and Cornell alumni. Out in Pittsburgh Is to take place the annual Pitt-Penn state contest and a little off from Pittsburgh West Virginia and Wash. ington and jefferson stage what al. ways is a real battle. Thanksgiving day contests seldom offer much food for thought as far as championships are concerned, but un. doubtedly they are in many respects much more important. Championships. sO.called, in foot ball mean absolutely nothing anyway, and victory in such games as are to be played Thanks giving day mean good deal. Yale won from Harvard, which means everything to Yale foot ball. And now, perhaps. from a standpoint Of Yale men, Tad Jones is not such a bad fellow after all. Jones has been criticised this fall because of some Of the things he has done, but in reality Jones is one OF the finest fellows connected with college foot ball anywhere, and anybody who thinks he is not 4 big asset to Yale foot ball then that person is very much mistaken. Incl. dentally. Jones is the kind Of fellow that not only his players, but every. body else likes. Maryland lost to Washington and Lee Saturday by 3 to 0. The game was played on a muddy field, but despite that was exceedingly interesting. washington and Lee played a better game than the Old Liners and de. served their victory. 1t was a contest. though, in which neither team had anything to be ashamed of.
