PURDUE, WABASH VICTORS In STATE RIVALRY TRAYS Notre Dame Continues on Unbeaten Way by Downing Drake-BuIer Loses to Dayton IT, State college football rivals have settled their differences for another year and the rooters of the respective teams have only arguments left un til next fall. Purdue defeated In diana, “a to Ia at. Lafayette, ano Wabash downed De Paw, to 0 a, Greencastle, last Saturday in the two climactic struggles of the season fol the Hoosier schools. The results were more or less ex pected by the supporters of the win ming teams and unbiased onlookers The only ones shocked were the students of De Paw and I. L. They could not “see’ the opposition ano probably don’t believe the scores yet which is an attitude not to be blamed but praised. Purdue had too much slash and smash for the Crimson. Wilcox did the sIashing and kOransl1y did the smashing, aided and abetted by line that out-played the 1. U. forwards throughout. Purdue’s first touchdown came as the result of a fifty-fve-yard run by Cotton” Wilcox on great cut-back sprint. The Roilermaker back was a constant threat on sweeping end runs which had plenty OF lnterference heading the play. Cook, a sophomore half back who &A-ted the fray made the second N5&chdown on an end run in the Sec ond period. Wilson added to the Purdue total by drop kick at a difficult angle from the 95-yard line In which the ball was in the air as the gun was fired ending the half Bennett Stars Chuck Bennett, Indiana’s CHIEF ground gamer, scored a touchdown in the second period with some fine off-tackle smashes in which the Crimson back cut in fast. Bishop place-kicked the extra point. Wilson drop-kicked both points after Purdues two touchdowns and the score at the half was Purdue, II; 1. u, Z. Each team scored a touchdown in the third quarter, Koransky going over for Purdue after steady march and Bennett making another for Indiana after penalties had put the ball In Purdue territory just after the opening kickoff OF the second half Approximately $4,000 fans wit messed the twenty-ninth annual game between the two HOosier rivals. If the stadium had not been built of concrete the SILVER ing multitude might have shook it down. A cold wind chilled the spectators to the marrow. but the play on the white challIed field was hot enough. Only small crowd of about 2,00O saw Wabash down De PAW for the secondary State title.
