Northwestern and Michigan Top FieId-Gophers Men ace Wolverine Record. OntG6U FT66S OIUII OOTTtoDOHuoHt CHICAGO, Nov. 15.-The big Ten conference championship for 1926 today rested between two teams, Michigan and Northwestern, as practice began for the final games Of the season next Saturday OF the two remaining undefeared aggregatons, Northwestern seems to be the favorite to win The Purple meets a comparatively weak team in Iowa Saturday, while the Wolverines must face what is regarded as one of the strongest outfits in the Middle West at present-Minnesota. Northwestern has the strongest team it has had in years and is regarded by experts as the real cream Of the Conference. The 1877 victory over Chicago last Saturday was but an indication of the great strength Of the team, because only straight football was used. That Michigan is much weaker than last year Is borne out by the teams slim margin Of victory over Ohio State Saturday when the wolverines won, 17–16. Minnesota already has been beaten by Michigan, but since the Gophers have gotten their regular strength in the field they have developed into sensational scoring machine, and it Is believed even money will prevail when they battle Michigan Sat urday. The Gophers ran up eighty one points against Butler Saturday. In the other games Of Saturday where Big Ten teams were concerned, the Indiana victory over Mississippi A. and M. stands out. Hi nois had just a second team scrimmage to win from Wabash and Purdue had Franklin beaten from the start. The Iowa Wisconsin game went about as was expected when the Badgers won, 20–10.
