ARMY AND NAV VYPLUNGlNG TOWARD 26 CHAMPIONSHIP Former Soundly Spanks Bulldog While Latter Avenges Itself On Michigan – Four Undefeated Eastern Teams Crash Into Casualty List Saturday – Haryard-Princeton This Week. New York, Nov. 1 P1 - The driving hoofs of an Army mule and the battering horns of Navy goat are steadily clearing the path of opponents who bar the way of Uncle Sam’s service elevens to the eastern football championship. The Bulldogs Of Yale on Satur- day could get no grip on the Mules thrashing Hanks and for the first time in 15 years the Cadets trounccd Yale soundly, B to 0. The western stampede of Michigan that crushed Navy last year under a shower of thudding passes was helpless against the man-for- man defense of the Middies at Balti- more as Navy calmly ruined the best efforts of Friedman to Oos- terbaan.’ The Sailors, in fpe condition aft CT the 10 to 0 victory, have noth- ing more serious on the schedule before the Army game than West to cross Boston colleges goal line for the first time it has been done this season, and Georgetown, the high scorer of the east with 231 points. Army can expect no serious opposition from Franklin and Mar shall and Creinus, and the outcome of the Notre Dame in the Yankee stadium November 13 will have no more than a psychological effect on the eastern ranking. Thus the Middies and cadets may journey to Chicago to settle the west on No- Nember 27 the championship of the cast as a side issue to their an- nual historic conflict. I Eastern Casualties Four undefeated eastern elevens crashed into the casualty list Sat urday. Columbia, aided materially by the sterling work of Captain Bill Madden. who jumped “Whippet” Carr of Syracuse to take the lead among individual point scorers with 63, slammed Cornell about for a [ to win, the first in 21 years. Penn sylvania made starting bow before the capable boot of Frost Peters, fireman successor of iceman Grange at Illinois, 10 0. and rugged Mis- souri flattened West Virginia 27 to 0. An undefeated team had to fall when Lafayette and washington and Jefferson collided but only the fly ing dash of substitute in the dusk of the final minute 10 play whipped the Presidents 16 to 10. Pennsyl- yania meets Penn State, Columbia faces William and Mary, West Vir- ginia tackles Pittsburgh. and Lafay cite plays Rutgers in notable con flicts of the coming week. Harvard Princeton Harvard. tickled over q husky football youngster that in three games has grown for a sickiy infant, plastered with defeat, to a figure of standing in any pigskin community, brides off the lid of the annual big three conflict with the goth Prince ton meeting. Harvard battered Tufts 69 to Saturday and tallied more frequently than any crimson eleven in a single game in 5S years. Prince ton walloped Swarthmore 27 to 0. Yale has an intersectional engage ment with Maryland before trying the Tiger claws. Nov. 13. Fordham plays Holy Cross, conqueror of Dayton. 20 to [ Little is left of the Dartmouth h. dian’s scalp after three straight de- feats, the last at the hands of Brown. 10 10 Q. hut Boston Gniver- sity offers a resting place Saturday. Brown has no game scheduled. but Harvard is waiting on Nov. 15 to test the Fears title possibilities. Soft spots and real dangcr are mixed on the upper New York state schedule. While Cornell Is tangling with St. Bonaventure and Colgate with Providence College. Syracuse has Georgetown to contend with, Colgate mastered Michigan State Saturday. 3S to S and Syracuse had little trouble with Johns Hopkins, winning 31 to 0.
