WESTERN ELEVENS PLAN FOR BATTLES Michigan and Illinois Both Pre- paring for Hard Games Chicago, Oct. 26 R)-Michigan triumphed over the football team of the Illini last Saturday, but lYost and Zuppke were on a common footing today. If the genial Bob was worried over the chances of Illinois against Pennsylvania’s hidden ball attack, so was Yost about Michigan’s prob abilities against the navy. Michigan crowded Illinois to the rail in the big ten title race, but all the genius of Bennie Friedman and the veteran Molenda went into the 13 to 0 victory. Critics agreed generally that it was not the great team that downed Navy a year ago. There was much evidence that the Wolverine coach was not in- dulging in idle subterfuge when he predicted on the eve of the battle with the Illini, that Michigan’s 1926 fortunes rest on the shoulders of a ‘‘lot of green boys” Yost said his line was weak, and the line looked weak against the Illinois that in the final quarter let the score mount from lone field goal on a chance of scoring themselves. At Illinois, Zuppke turned today to various ways and means of solving Pennsylvania’s hidden ball offense. zuppke had talked of using white football if the customers in sisted on wearing their brown arm pads, which look like footballs. Word came from the East, however, that these would be painted black In the conference proper, major share of the attention turned to he weeks battle between a Wiscon- sin as yet undefeated and a Minne- sota that surprised the big ten by Saturdays crushing defeat of Wabash. At Chicago Stagg began muster ng strength in team shaken by and Purdue. Ohio State, rated Michigan’s strongest contender since downing Iowa, invades Stagg field his week, while Purdue meets h. liana State Normal. Iowa plays Carroll College, Wis l ,onsin, while Northwestern engages 1 Indiana a second time. At Notre Dame Rockne labored l o convert Saturdays bare margin ‘ver Northwestern into an expected i lecided triumph over the invasion # Georgia Tech.
