K1euz$ Aence Weakened Penn Defense Michigan Resume IT’S II NAVY STILL HOPEFUL OF DEFEATING ARMY ANNAPOLIS, November 2.-Navy is stricken, but not hopelessly, over the overwhelming defeat. 54 to 0, inflicted by Michigan at Ann Arbor Saturday. Instead of dwelling on it’s humiliation. players and coaches already are planning how to make the best of the portion of the season that remains. After all, the great object of the season at the Naval Academy is to produce team which will defeat the Army eleven, and that is still regarded as a possibility. If that can be done the season will be regarded as a success, and even the heart breaking defeat of Saturday will not be remembered. Not since modern foot ball began has the Naval Academy sustained its lot Saturday. Back in 1903, when the Army won, 40 to 5, and thus is the most severe beating previously suffered. Moreover, the repeated piercing of the Navy line seems incomprehensi- BILE. Navy always has had a stalwart and formidable line, even when weak in other particulars. This year il is heavy and experienced and was thought to be almost impregnable, yet Michigan pierced it at every point and it could not open up for the Navy backs.

MICHIGAN HAS LOTS Of FUN WITH NAVY Middies Unable to Score, Wolverines Run Up 81 Points. ANN ARBOR, Mich, Oct. 81 Riddled by the accurate gunnery of Fielding Yost’s crew, the Navy was sunk without trace of single score in the mud of Ferry Field this after noon. The final result was 81 to 0. one of the most bitter defeats the Middies have suffered in years in football. The game was full of sensational plays. Friedman, much-touted star of the Yost men. rceled off run after run, but his brilliant work was shadowed by a greater luminary, Molcnda, Michigan fullback, who was the life of the party. Time and again Shapley, greatest of the Navy, tried to break through the almost perfect defense of the Maize and Blue, only to be turned back baffled. Shnpley, playing on defeated team, ranked with the Michigan quartet. H. did all one man could do, but his de- Tense was torn down around his feet and clutched from above his head, and his offense could not get started.
