Marek and Grange Outstanding Lights in Saturday Games Chicago, Oct. 12.-P)-The prom Use Of Elmer Marek of Ohio as one Of the backfield luminaries of the present football season and the return OF RED” Grange Of Illinois to his old form as ground gamer and running strategist, were outstanding lights in first clashes of Big Ten teams. In fact the individual performances in last Saturdays game probably were more significant than the effect Of the battles on the cham pionship race. Along with Marek and Grange, kutsch of Iowa was one Of the spectacular performers. his work against st. Louis helping to put him at the head Of conference scorers with 81 points, including five touch downs Ralph Baker. the Northwestern ace, was not in the game against Garlic ton long enough to give him ON .op- .portunity to shine in his accustomed glory. . Michigan Heads List The 3 to 3 tie, registered by Chi cago and Ohio State, was not con. sidered to have seriously affected their chances for the title. Curious “. this was the same score register ed last year. notwithstanding which the Maroons were able to land the title. So far as the title is concern. ed nine of the 10 teams still are sporting the virgin 1000 per cent only Indiana, crushinEly defeated by Michigan, being on the zero side Of the column. Theoretically Mich. igan. as q result of its win, is head. ing the list. The other six teams have played no conference game SO far. Two Big Games Saturday The Iowa Illinois game next Saturday probably offers the greatest opportunity for spectacular play with the mighty Grange pitted against Kptsch in q play for indiyi. dual honors. Conference eyes also will be turned on the Michigan. Wis consin 60. with the probable outcome little more than gueas.
