CAPTAIN KAW STAR IN ITHACA VICTORY Leader of Big Red Eleven Runs 48 Yards to Touch down. HANSON KICKS LONG GOAL Husky Tackle on DObie Ma chine Boots Placement From Near Midfield. HANSON KICKS LONG GOAL BY JOHN j. HALL. The “big un” would have enjoyed the way Cornell went about beating the Dartmouth eleven, 23 to 0. yesterday afternoon at the P.,o Grounds but not that so much. perhaps. as the r’arin’ of the wild Texas steer these students of Ithaca brought along with them as their captain in the game witnessed by $4,000 persons. Only the other day the BAN drew the light OF publicity to his retiring self by pilgrimage to Jersey. where he threw a nimble leg over King Jess Homestead de Kol, rough Holstein grazing in the vicinity of Englewoodand rode him. All hands said 1t was some trick, for everybody knows that the De Kos are some folks in the Holstein family. So, with his own reputation secure, Mister Ruth could have snickered a superior snicker had he been around the p. G.. yesterday and watched the futile efforts OF whole flock of New England cowboys to ride one lone Texas steer who’s not Kol, but a Kaw-Edgar l.. Kaw, and an honor to the family. Among the playful little things this rampant son of the Lone Star performed during the course of the coutest was to score a touchdown. Not being given to doing things In an ord’nary way, Edward didn’t register MS six points in the usual way. either. r. stead, he smashed the line about mid field, cut right. then left, magicaliy tore himself from the grasp OF three t9ckie!s and was off for the goal line fortyeight Yards away There was still ore more Dartmouth man in his path. Having shaken off three. one was easy ana presently the Cornell captain had COM peted the outstanding play of game that did not lack brilliant features Kaw wonder on Defense. And that wasn’t all he did. Generally he was a bear on offense. He was still more bearish on defense. Four Dart mouth forward passes were intercepted. Kaw intercepted tho four of thera. Again he stood at his own goal line when Dartmouth threatened late In the rourth period and batted down two more, and whenevr a green jacketed player thing that looked like dangerous run. depend upon it that he didn’t get past Kaw. Cornelrs other two touchdowns were made by Ramsey and Cassidy. They cafne after splendid marches In which plays that knitted off tackle or sharp end runs ate up the territory Hanson kicked two goals from touchdown, each place. ment, and then he kicked another place. nient. perfect beauty that rounded out the Reds total Of points. Pretty much all afternoon enthusiasts I’m the stand had been expecting Just such a performance from Fudge Neidlinger of Dartmouth. The big Hanover tackle has had exceptional success as placement kicker this season. but four times he tried against Cornell from dis tances ranging up to mdfield with nary point resulting. Hanson tried once. too. and failed. Then he tried again. this time from forty-six yards out on the field with the ubiquitous kaw hold ing the ball. and the drive had just enough carry to clear the crossbar. The Cornell Drive Starts. Dartmouth kicked off and Cornell. failing to gain, called on Kaw. who stood out as much as a kicker as in other departments. to punt. The ball carried from Cornell’s 35 yard line. Dartmouth ISicl ID and the ball went out. giving Cor ,ell possession at Hanover’s 45 yard lind Pfann cut around left end for two Yards. Kaw made seven around right wing. Then he came round the same flank again for the initial first dowl OF the game. Kaw. Pfann. Ramsey and Cassidy made another rapidly Kaw was called again. His response was u iaunt around left end for seventeen yards or so for first down on Cornells % yard line. Pfann advanced five. Kaw made IL the fourth consecutive firs: down on Dartmouth’s ii yard line. Dartmouth held once. Ramsey got five. Kaw added two more. Fourth down row and three to So Ramsey shot At tho line like a bullet. He came out on the other side, across the goal with “a touchdown. Hanson missed the kicked. Cornell kicked off to the is yard line J. Dartmouth back fumbled and recovered out of bounds. Harris kicked to Cornell’s IS yard line where Kaw recovered and was forced out Of bound by the Dartmouth wings who were down fast all afternoon. Pfann made inc and half yards around left end. Now came Kaw little more boldly into the picture-now came his forty eight yard gallop TO touchdown. Right then some folks thought that material for another jazzy outburst Dy Hudyard kiplng was in tie making-another Boots” II wasn’t Dartmouth Tries n Hand. After the Kaw runaway Cornell seemed 10 subsldc for the time being. 80 far as any more scoring was concerned. Yt was now Dartmouth’s turn to thrill n bit Very early in the second period Dartmouth came into possession Of the ball at mldfield. The Green made seven yards on three tries. Neidlinger was or dered to try a placement. His kick was a corker from q not encouraging angle and he Just missed. He tried another from the SO yard line a few minutes later Continued on Page Three.
