OF the Spiders, had allowed 70 drop, and raced thirty-five yards Tor 9 touchdown. Fray, for the Richmonders, scored early In the second period altar several long runs, and the Spiders held Virginia scofeless through thfes periods. After making the first touchdowf, the Orange and Blue had little trou. bic running Arnold over for q sec ond score. Fenwick made good twc drop kicks for extra points. Throughout the opening half the Spiderbacl<s seemed TO have the entire Orange and Blue eleven under o spell. and on their shift plays they easily gained first down time after time on single plays. Runs Of from ten to fifteen yards occurred several times. and twice Fray got away for thirty-ive-yard sprfnts. Except for the disastrous second period the backs or the home team held when. ever the goal was threatened. Fumble Hurts. Richmond made poor kickoff at the start and for the first few min. utes II seemed that virginia wa going to have an easy time Of II. The backs gained consistently for two first down. Then Oppleman lost ground on Q disastrous tumble and Arnold was forced to punt. Suddenly, ~ the second quarter opened. Richmond began the march down the field with o 35.yard run by Fray. Zeiglsr carried the ball for another first down and then ad. vanced II 8 more yards to within 8 yards Of the goal. virginia’s men were kept back by q perfectly functioning intereference, while Fray went over the goal line. But zeigisr could not kick. For the remainder Of the second period and the entire third quarter the ball stayed Close to the center Of the field. Virginia gained In sew. eral exchanges OF punts. but their playing was % ragged that they lost most Of their advance. Runs for Teuchdown. In the fourth period Towili, who had just come in for Captain Jones, received Q punt from Arnold. but let II slip to the ground ana Lewis picked Il up on the run and raced 70 yards across the line. Foster, hitting the line for yards and Arnold for Is more. brought it close TO the Roai. Maphis and Wilson. In two tries. each made another first down ana Arnold broke through i’ve yards for . tally.
