BROWNS SLAEST VICTORY Tho, Game That Vas Won From Trinity Was I Good Ono. GAME OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN 1870 The Inability Of Brown to Kick Goals. From Touchdowns 10 Serious Matter Finest Kind OF Work by the Bscks- Other Teaturss Of she Game. GAME OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN 4S--O The game Saturday which Brown won $40 against Trinity was very satisfactory In most ways to supporters Of the team. The interference and tackling OF the team wal of high class, though the tendency OF many Of the men is still to make too high q tackle. The work OF the line was very steady and there were always good holes ready for play through the line. S,me of the men did not appear to ind the holes easily and consequently made shorter gains than they should. The team work was great improvement over anything before seen In Brown football, and the game was the finest ever seen on Lincoln field. Trinity was much lighter than Brown and somewhat disabled from several previous hard games, but was evidently not up to tho style In which Brown played. The new tricks which the team had been practising the last week resuited In long gains aud the criss.cross fooled the Hartford mon more than once. The Inability Of Brown to kick goals from touchdowns 10 a serious matter. From the eight touch downs made only one goal was kicked, and that the most difficult one. AL the others were square In front Of the goa! posts. The score should have been 4s-o Lancey kicked one in three. aud Hopkins, Millard, Colby. Smith and Robinson all failed in attemps to k’c’, the goal. Trinity demanded strictly undsrgraduate team, so Hastings and Casey did not play. Robinson took. Hastings place at guard and though entircly new to the position, did very satisfactory work. Smith got into the game in good shape. though he did not use his weight and ability to break through for what IL is worth. Coombs at center played steady game aud broke up Trinity’s wedge plays In great shape. At tackle Lancey played fine, aggressive game. and made good gains with the ball. Mott broke through in fine shape and twice spoiled Trini,y’s punts. He ran too high In bucking the limo and did not seem to find his hole. At end Dennison and Colby did good work and Dennlson made several fine tackles. The Work OF tho Backs was OF the finest kind. Donovan pass ed the ball quickly and accurately and gave the signals well, playing n cool, heady game. He tackled aud interfered In fine style. Hopkins proved himself a thorough master of the game, and bis long runs, one o. IS yards, showed what sort of u football man he was. Milard also was In the game every time and of such pair OF haf backs Brown may we’ll feel proud. Mccarthy at full did good work. but he was not called upon TO punt, his strongest point. Altogether the work Of the men was very satisfactory aud augurs well for the future success of Brown football grown Notes. L-ce has res gn d from captain and Nc Glare from m ,nager OF the fresh man eleven. Shedd has been elected captain and Boiling. manager. Cap ain Hopkins of the football team has lie IN initiated into Theta Delta Chi. The sophomores held their class meet ing Saturday. Chace was elected president, Call. first vice presldent; Gamwell. second vics president; Smith, secretary; Rock well, football MANAGER. The idea OF having a class cane was discussed aud a committee OF three was appointed to look into the matter. Brown plays Andover Wednesday at Ando,er. The Academy team has defeated Tufts and Massachusetts Institute Of Technology, aud expsc;s to make the Brown-bred boys hustle. The game should prove al Interesting one.
