At no time were the Panthers in danger Of being scored on, even when Hewett fumbled almost in the shadow of his own goal posts, as the Pitt line always held like 3 stone wall. The New York Staters were only able to make one first down, and that because of forward pass tnat gained twelve yards, while the Warner machine made first down no less than twenty one times. The spectacular work Of Captain Tom Davies inspired every man on the Pitt team, and the leader was ably backed up by Holleran, Stein, Winterburn, Anderson. Sacks and Harmon. Pitt won the toss and elected TO take the kickoff. A couple Of minutes later they had the ball down at the SYRIA cuse goal post. Captain Guiick was all over the field trying to stop Hewett, Holleran and Davies, but without avail, as the Panthers flashed in and out of the Orange line until the pigskin was on the visitors 10-yard line, when double pass from Anderson to Davies sent the latter over for the first touch down. Davies kicked the goal. End Runs Net Yardage On the kickoff Jappe fumbled for Syracuse, but fell on the ball on his own 25-yard line. After the Orange had unsuccesstully tried to gain BY forward passing they were forced to kick.
