  Illinois Loses And Conference Race Is Upset Wisconsin Springs Surprise by Beating Leading Eleven- by Score of Ia to y MADISON, Wis, Nov. 13. - Illinois sustained its first defeat in the West ern Conference football championship race to day, losing to Wisconsin. IA to 9, before $4,000 persons here in one cs the startling upsets Of the season. Ralph Fletcher, Illinois quarterback, kicked three goals from placement Tor the Illinois scores. Wisconsin crashed over with two tOuchdOwns. The first period was largely punt ing duel, with Dundt outkicking He’ll strom, but with the Illinois runbacks ncutralizlng this advantage. Once Will.   BADGERS UPSET ILLINOIS HOPES Wisconsin Checks Repeated Rallies With Two TouchdOWns-Bob Fletcher Scores. Madison. Wis, Nov. 15.-Badger football circles are jubilant today after Wisconsin’s great victory Saturday over Zuppke’s renowned Illinj. whom they defeated 1919 in one Of the greatest games ever played between the two institutions. By their victory, the Badgers knocked the Illini out Of first place in the conference race. leaving Ohio State the only member with a clean slate. Fletcher Kicks Three. The Hin wed up to expectations early in the game when Bob Fetch er kicked two goals from place. ment, giving the Zupps a 60 lead at the end Of the first half. 1t was the speed and power Of the Badgers in the final moments of the game that swept the apparent winners on their feet. Fletcher kicked a third goal later, but it did no good Wisconsin did all its scoring in the third quarter. Elliott and t. bell made the touchdowns after series Of successful open plays had put the ball within easy striking distance. The old Illinois grit reasserted itself toward the end oil the game, but the Badgers never relinquished their hold and kept the game we’ll in hand. The game developed largely into punting duel between Bob Fetch er and Sundt, with the advantage slightly in favor of the Illini star kicker. Most Of Sundt’s punts fiew out Of bounds.

  Wisconsin Downs Illinois In Thrilling 14–⁠9 Battle 2 MADISON, Wis, Nov. 13. Wis consin today tumbled Illinois out of first place in the Western Confer ence football race by spurt of for ward passing which lasted just long enough to give the Badgers IA points to Illinois g in what was perhaps the greatest football victory ever won by a Crimson eleven. In the third period the Wisconsin team lived up to its reputation for versatility and power and with the cry of ‘‘on Wisconsin” voiced by 20,- 900 spectators, became supreme for a brief 10 minute period and sent over the score which brought victory. With Quarterback Barr as the pi- vot, pass to Elliott brought the fist touchdown and a moment later another pass to Tebell sent over the second Barr kicked both goals.
