IOWA ]. CELEBRATES HOMECOMING DAY BY BEAT|NC MINNESOTA IOWA CITY, Iowa, Nov. 13.-Home- coming day at the University of Iowa was a marked success in the opinion of 1000 Iowa enthusiasts who saw the Hawkeye football eleven romp away from the Minnesota team with a 2S to victory here today. Forward passes, principally from D. Devine to Belding, figured prominently in Iowa’s attack, but the name of Locke is written large in the detail of play, for that plunging fullback punctured the Gopher line or skirted the ends for decisive gains repeatedly and also counted all four touchdowns for his team. Minnesota’s attack after the first pe- riod was largely negative, although Oss and Eckberg, with short line plunges, frequently raised the dwindling hopes of the Gopher rooters. Captain Arn- ston and Brown, too, now and then made gains, but the necessary punch was lacking after the first period. Defensively Iowa provided a handi- cap to Minnesota’s backs and also out charged her line, while Minnesota on the defense seemed lacking in many pinches, although at one time the Co., phers held. Iowa for four straight downs within a yard of the Minnesota goal. Oss again proved a tower of strength on the defense.
