THE OXFORD EAGLE, OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI. OLE MISS BEATEN BY TULANE Tulane 32-Ole Miss @. Weight and Endurance Defeats Ole Miss In Great Battle. Although OclcdCeu ny CHc score Ol 80 to the University of Mississippi has hard and plucky fight to their credit and fight that we are justly proud of not withstanding the fact that the Ole Miss Warriors were greatly outweighed by the Tulane Green backs, they showed gameness and football ability that is we’ll worthy Of praise. The first hlf of the game was more or less a punting duel between Bar bour and McGraw, and was marked by BEAUTIFUL defensive work by both teams. Neither team seemed able to score and at the end of the first two periods the wearers of the Red and Blue had fought themselves into an even break with the Greenbacks, the score standing 90. The exertion and suspense of such gruehhg pattle aid ed by Tulane’s superiority in weight told in the last half of the conflict and the Tulane team triumphed over the desperate efforts of the Mississippians to stay on the onslaught of the Greenbacks and to turn the tide of defeat. It was slow, resolute, crushing progress throughout the line that wore Ole Miss down and develop ed Tulane the winners, but there are ample honors left for our team and their plucky fight against odds. The game itself was much better than the score indicates, as Tulane justly deserved every inch that they gained and let it be added that they gained it over the desperate efforts of Ole Miss to stop them. It was said by the sporting Editor of the New Orleans States that the Greenies were forced to use regulars to defeat Ole Miss. This is an erroneous statement for with the possible exception of Payne and Nagal, who were substituted in the first quarter, the same team lined up against Ole Miss when the whistle blew for the kick off that will line up against Mich igan on next Saturday. The playing of the Ole Miss eleven was such IN improvement over the game at Biz mingham that there is consolation even in defeat. The team displayed their worth and ability as fighters and at the rate that they are now i’m proving they should be able to give a good account of themselves before the season is over. The team as a whole has improved and for the first time this year demonstrated some degree of team work. This should be developed and ample opportunity for this Improvement will be found in the two weeks before we meet A. & M. in the annual clash. The team plays Union Saturday and the student body will be afforded the opportunity Of again seeing the eleven- in action and of noting the vast i’m provement that has taken place since the last exhibition given on the cam pus. Another week of hard practice and then A. & M. and it is our advice that that organization look to their laurels lest they be woefully surpris. ed over the outcome of their game on the sixth Of October.
