MO,Intaincers Beat Presidents. Morgantown, “. Va, Nov. 2S.-- West Virginia won a signal victory here yesterday over Washington and Jefferson, the conqueror of Syracuse. The score was : to 0, and the crowd twice exceeded the largest numbers that ever witnessed a gridiron battle in West Virginia. 1t was a spectacular contest in which Captain Rodgers, King, Eite, Harrick and Bailey played the leading roles for the Mountaineers, and Erickson, Eielson and Shields for Washington and Jefferson. The big event which marked the only scoring of the contest came early in the first period when a series of spectacular passes sent Rip King hurrying across the goal line with , pass he had just received from Cap tain Rodgers. This decided the issue. Thrilling as was this big march of more than 50 yards, to which should be added 5 yards in a penalty re- ceived by the Mountaineers, it WAS not the only thrill of the game. Wash ington and Jefferson continually threatened to score. Once West Vir- ginia took the ball only inches from her goal. Rodgers brought his total of points scored up to Al yesterday and is the leading individual scorer in the coun- try The Mountaineer victory atoned completely for the defeats by Pitt and Centre college early in the season. Without any dissenting voices, the West Virginia season is voted an un- qualified success. Last night students and thousands of alumni had posses sion of the town. The lineup:. w.
