g to score, was trampled terrfois by the Folwell team 23 to !. There is no doubt that Penn de- served to rank with the foremost contenders and the Penn-Dartmoutn game for Nov. in New York VIII have a heavy bearing on the cham pionship titles Should Dartmouth win from Colgate and then lose to Penn. the U. Of P. eleven would look like the prize winners without equl- vocation. Or if Dartmouth should lose to Colgate and then whip the Penn men, Colgate would stand alone in it’s sphere. From either an gle, the Penn-Dartmouth muss takes on plenty of lustre. Harvard and Washington and JeI- ferson are the only two big teams that haven’t been scored on to date Both may be said 10 have a claim to the title, and if the w. & J. team trims Penn and Pittsburgh in their matches, it will take intricate ng- uring to bar it from its reward Harvard will hardly have experts support for the title on the strength of it’s schedule this year-even if It whips Princeton and Yale-but ln case Colgate, Dartmouth and Penn all drop games before the end of the season and Harvard gets by with out a reverse, the crimson would then stand out as champ. It is curious that both Boston Col iege and Syracuse, after their sur ] prising victories of a week ago, both lost to their Saturday opponents by a score of 13 to 0. Both upsets were doubtless due to the same thing that B. c. and Syracuse were at the l crest of their power when they trim | med Yale and Pitt and suffered stale ness afterward. B. c. was at a greater , disadvantage than Syracuse, however. i for Gays substitutes are few, and he ! was practically forced to use as many i of his first string men as could walk | or else throw in some hopeless al ! ternates. i The best information in the Tiger ] Colgate TOW is that both teams put up a whale of a battle. Even in de- feat the Princeton outfit looked bet | ter than at any time this season, and ; there is still a hope in Jersey that , Yale may be overcome, and even possibly Harvard. Colgate had no de- i cisive advantage over the Tigers. des- pite it’s to victory, for only an unfortunate offside prevented Prince ton from being awarded a touchdown which would have tied the score. Quite as important as the Tigers ! improvement Is the proof that Col gate Is still going strong and getting stronger Bankhart’s mob has been IEp against some savage outfits this fall, already, yet it apparently shows no battering. Colgate’s greatest test is coming this week, though, and if it beats Dartmouth it will have Ins old death grip on the pigskin pen nant

Scores Two Touchdowns Inside S Minutes; Up staters Defeated, l3 to O SYRACUSE, Oct. 25--Tearlng off two spectacular fifty and ifty-fve yards runs for touchdowns in the last eight minutes OF pay. Erickson, the Washington and Jefferson halfback, sent Syracuse to defeat this afternoon, 13 to 0. The touchdowns came within five minutes Of each other, after the two teams had battled fifty minutes without either side being able to make any appreciable gain through the others line. In the final period Syracuse sent in half dozen second-string men and the work of the team suffered. I’M mediately after that Washington and Jefferson smashed its way down the field to the Syracuse S-yard line, but here the Orange held, and getting the bail on downs punted out of danger Syracuse braced after this score and by straight line bucks worked the pig skin to the Washington and jefferson 2O-yard line, but Steele fumbled and a Washington man fell on the ball. Eli son Immediately punted out of danger and from that time on the visitors line was never in danger. with eight minutes to play Ackley, of Syracuse punted. Erickson received the kick and ran fifty yards through the entire Syracuse team for touch down. Stein failed to kick the goal. Less than five minutes later, after an other exchange Of punts between Acklcy and Ellison, the former booted to Erickson and he duplicated his feat, this time running ffty-tive yards for the second touchdown. Stein kicked the goal. Early in the first period the game developed into a punting duel between Ackley and Ellison. with honors about even. Barsha, Abbott, Fallon and Ackley repeatedly tried bucking the Wash ington and Jefferson line and were able to make only small gains. At tempts to skirt the ends met with the same results. Erickson, Ellison and Bixler met the same fate when they tried bucking the Orange line. On several occasions Orange men broke through the Washington and jefferson defense and threw the runner For loss. On the other hand. Wash ington and Jefferson stopped S yracuse runners in their tracks As result both teams resorted to punting and during the second and third period this style Of play was used almost exclusively. This was the first defeat for Syra> cuse this vear

Pitt Protests Eligibility of w. and j.. Star Lawson Robertson, Penn track coach, who accompanied the Red and Blue cross country team to Syracuse last Sunday, saw Washington and Jefferson beat Syracuse 13 to 0. Robertson says Henry, the giant right tackle on the w. and j. eleven, was the real star of the game, although news dispatches mentioned Halfbacks Erickson and Ellison as the most prominent factors in W. and J.’s VIC tory. Pittsburgh, which plays w. and j. Saturday a week. has protested Henry, on the ground he has played four years of college football. w. and ] has a powerful, heavy team, accord ing to Robertson, but he does not beieve they could beat Penn because IF their slowness.
