DOWNS bUCKNELL ELEVEN Plays Real Foot Ball Against Tagged Opponents and Wins, 21–6. Special Dispatch to The Star. ANNAPOLIS, Md, October 25.-The Midshipmen had to get down to real foot ball against Bucknell this after noon, but turned the trick by winning, 81 to 6. They started easy winners with the first choice backf1eld and promptly scored touchdown and goal, but two substitutions in the combinaton disorganized them slightly and there was no more Navy scoring until the final quarter, when the new crowd became co-ordinated and played strong foot ball against the rather tagged visitors. Between times Bucknell was very much in the game indeed There was no time during the contest in which defense nor when they were not dangerous with the ball, with their combination Of well executed PLAYS. consisting Of varieties of forward pass plays, sometimes in colnbinat ton with the old criss-cross. quarter, but 1t was rather Bucknell’s. Ebner’s Sensational Run. ihe navy showed something early In the third quarter. but Bucknell turned the tables with cwo really SEN sational plays. leading to its only touchdown. The Midshfpmen essayed a forward pass from Bucknelrs 30 yard line. The pass was longer than the ones usually tried by the Nav. and Elmer was under it. at about his own 20-yard line. Eluding several Navy players. he ran to Nays 10 yard line. where he was stopped by Koehler. Nothing seen here so far this season has approached this play. It looked for moment. however, that 1t would count for nothing. as Buck nell fumbIed to the Navy on the next play. Kings kick was rather short and Bucknell made several short gains. carrying the ball to the Nays s0-vard line. From this point Bow ser tossed the ball to Dent. who was over the Nays goal line. Roster missed the goal. There was general Improvement in Nays backfeld in the fourth quarterS Koehler and Rawlings doing specially fine work. The Midshipmen scored when Murray blocked Bow ser’s punt. Denfeld fell on the ball behind the line and again when Koehler carried the ball over, after he had. with Rawlings. worked the ball half way down the field in a series of plays on tackle.

Bucknell Gives Navy Hard Battle On the Gridiro,1 ANNAPOLIS, Oct. 25.--Presenting highly formidable aggregation. Buck nell for a time threw fright into the Annapolis Midshipmen, but the latter by continually plugging away at the line with an occasional forward pass. and by getting shade the better Of the “breaks” finally won out by the score of 21 to 6. Farragut Field was heavy as a result of two-day rain, but in spite of this both teams handled the ball in pretty style. The Midshipmen showed their best work in the first and final periods in which they registered ali of their points. In the first period they car ried the ball by line plays for 35 yards to a touchdown. Bucknell looked dan gerous for time in the second period, when they advanced the pigskin to Navy’s 5-yard line, only to meet a strong resistance, and Navy taking the leather on dowuns, punted down fie d. The third period witnessed all kinds of football. and the Bucknellians. if any thing, slightly outplayed the sailor lads, although they accomplished very little through line bucking 1t was at this stage of the contest that they began to look dangerous, their defense strengthened and three times they forced the middies to punt Bucknell’s hopes arose in a flash when Elmer, intercepting a Navy for ward pa S, sprinted eighty wards behind fine interference before he was finally ooverhauled and thrown by Koehler on 4NavS’s 5-yard mark. Two plays, and Dent went over for chdown The try for goal was q failure. Soon afterward another Bucknel score that seemed imminent was thwarted by a penalty and tumble on Navy’s TOyard line. Things began to come Navy’s way in the final period. Murray blocked a lBucknell punt near Bucknells goal hne, and Koehler. In mad rush to grab it, pushed it across the line. where Denfeld, Navy, dropped on it for a, touchdown. Within for minutes OF the. close of the game the Navy bat tering resulted in another score, Koch Ier taking it over on line plunge. The lineup:
