GEORGIA BEATS FLORIDA AFTER BEING 0UTPLAYED IN FIRST HALF Tampa, Oct 27.-After rushing Georgia better than even through the first half Of a game played on the warmest October 25 in weather his tory here, the Florida Alligators with. cred before a series of Georgia fakes conferred around Cheeves, whose dash cs were the outstanding features of the Georgia offense, and went down to defeat, 16 to 0. Playing against Toots Perry, for two years scholastic star, at Gainesville, Day, Georgia. All-American center, found his match, and during the first quarter and large ly in the second quarter was unable to stop the Gator pivot man who ripped through, tearing big holes, through which Florida made most Of her early gains. A perfectly formed interference and the Crackers ability to smother the Gator aides tells the story of the Red and Blacks victory. Time after time Cleeves would get away behind beautiful interference for substantial gains, while on Bar chan’s forty-yard run for touchdown, eight Gators were lowered as they rushed after the former Duval star. Georgia played waiting game. It was hot and they played for 1t, while Florida rushed into full tilt with the blast of the referees whistle In the first quarter. Line bucks, principally over the middle of the line, were Florida’s best ground gamers, netting two first downs, while attempts to circle the wings were smotherod on every attempt, not one being success full. Georgia got the ball after about ten minutes Of play and end runs by Barchan, Roth and Neville, with a plunge by Barchan netted the only first down of the period. The second quarter opened with the ball on Florida’s twenty-yard line after fifteen-yard penalty. Hatton booted to Barchan and tumble returned 1t to the Gators on the next play. The Gators started rushing again, and got first down, when tumble interfered. The Gators held, but Cleeves broke away on fake and dashed twenty-five yards. But 1t was the only shining light of the period for the Crackers. The Gators took the ball away from them and had added another series of rush es for another first down when the whistle stopped the attack. Then Georgia came back, still rely. ing on straight football. The second half opened with an exchange Of punts with the lines hold ing tight. Day braced and while he plugged the center hole he could not move Perry when Georgia had the ball. Dashes by Cheeves for twelve, thirty and five furnished the motive pow er for the Georgia touchdown, though Rothe. carried the pigdermis the last
