TRAINING SCHOOL TRAILS COLORS OF ANNAPOLIS Great Lakes Players Win by Score of 2 to 6; California Beats Oregon; Other Foot ball Results ANNAPOLIS, Ind, Nov. 23.-In one of the most bitterly contested games ever witnessed on a local gridiron the eleven of the Great Lakes Naval Training station of Chicago trailed the colors of Annapolis Midshipmen in defeat here this afternoon by a score of : to 6, the narrow margin Of a goal kicked. The tars from the middle west turned what seemed like certain de- feat into victory in the last three minutes of the closing period of the game. when Eilson sprinted 90 yards to a touchdown. Blacklock, the big Indian. put up a brilliant defensive game at right tackle for Great Lakes and kicked the goal that sealed the fate of the Middies claim for football supremacy in the east. The game was thriller from start to finish and was marked by sen sational incident-one that is seldom witnessed on a college gridiron these days. The sensation was coupled with Eilson’s brilliant dash to a touch down. After the Great Lakes runner had sprinted to within the 3O-yard mark of the Navy’s goal line and the last of the pursuing tacklers had been disposed of by his interference, Saunders, one of the Middies first string substitutes, dashed from his seat on the bench out into the foot ball arena and brought the fleeing runner down from behind. General excitement prevailed for time, and some of the supporters of Great Lakes made a rush for the intruding Middy and began pummelling him, but quiet was soon restored and the game pro ceeded. Ellison had a clear field at the time and the officials, of course, ruled a legitimate touchdown. This incident came virtually as a climax to the stubbornness of the fight that each team put into the game. although there was no element of unnecessary roughness.

touchdown-the only score of the game touchdown-the only score of the game California winning 6 to 0. “Shy” Huntington may well feel proud of his eleven men who battlcd the Californians to fare thc-weil. Out weighed fully eight pounds to the man and with the ground soggy as result of torrential rains, Oregon’s football lists gave the Bears everything they had stored in their systems that was possible, and in the fourth quarter nad the ball on California three-yard line; but the Bears almost impregnable line presented stonc-wall defense and the Eugene warriors lost the ball on tho fourth down. Jacobberger Oregon Star, California had the edge on the Ore gonians in every quarter except the first. The Bears ran up a total of, $50 yards, gained by rushing, to Oregon Is 1893. Sprott Watson and Hooper, Cali fornias trio of line plungers, worked overtime, and made first down IL times during the battle to Oregon’s nine, but Oregon was out there fighting every inch of the way, with Francis Jacob berger standing out as the bright star of the big game.
