PITT TEAM is PICKED TO WIN Pennsylvania Players and Coaches Think Panthers Can Defeat Ga. Tech. Philadelphia, Nov. 1s.-University OF Pennsylvania players and coach es, with but one exception. pick Pitt to beat Georgia Tech Saturday in the battle which will determine the football championship of the East. Little wonder that the young players of Penn look upon the Panthers as a team of supermen. They were beaten, $40. in Pitts burgh last Saturday. More i’m pressive is the fact that the Penn coaches concur in the Judgment of their charges The football mentors pronounce the Pittsburgh eleven to be one of the greatest machines they ever saw. OF all the Red and Blue players, only Joe Straus favors Georgia to win. Straus is from Texas and ever since he has been North he has been ridden” steadily about Southern football. Next Saturday, he believes. will bring confirmation of his claim that football down home is as perfectly developed as in the North. brisk dashes through the line or around the ends and the great Nc Laren to pulverize the opponents Entertainments, Pitt has two tremendous aces to start the game against Georgia Tech. McLaren was not used against Penn and Davies played in only two periods. p which was plenty for fhe taste of the Philadelphians. Backing up this pair will be Gougler, at quarter. and Easterday at half, two sterling backs. big Bill Hollenback. who. with Bob Folwell. coaches Penn, is out spoken in picking Pitt over Georgia. There has been a lot said and written about Georgia’s jump-shift and the surprise It will be to Pitt” he said. Mark my words that the surprise is going to be the other way about When Georgia shifts. Pitt will shift right with it. Warner did not show any of his pet plays against Penn / don’t know what he has ready for Georgia, but the very finest plays in the world are the old ones which the other side thoroughly understands and yet can’t break up. When team knows that the other AtAAONS dAC hOAhb “ pun anu sun can’t stop them, its morale is gone for good In other words, its goat is lost” For a week Pitt has been practicing shift formations, although they were not used against Penn. Johnny Heisman. an old Penn graduate and coach of Georgia Tech, sat in the grand stand at Forbes Field Saturday and watched his old college colors being lowered by an aggregation which showed nothing new or surprising but which doomed up more formidably by reason of the very fact that ii was using old stuff in such an effective way. Heisman learned enough to make Davies a marked man whenever he gets the ball He also learned that the Pitt line is inclined to be fiighty and guilty Of offside play. Pitt was pc nalized many times in the Penn game, fault that was more glaring because there was no Justification for undue haste against the small Penn team.

Warner sent in several subs In the third period. but It did not do Pennsylvania any good. McCracken and Ham burger battered their line for gains and after getting down TO the 10 yard line Gougler was called into play and bucked the centre for the desired touchdown. He also kicked goal. Here is where Penn picked UP and for a while held the Blue and Gold, the ball never getting away from the centre or the field. PittsburY was frequently penalized and the only first down that Pennsylvania gained was helped by penalty. The last touchdown was scored soon after the last period began. Ham burger being pushed over from centre and Gougler kicking goal. In the last ten minutes OF play Penn sylvania held their own and the Pan theirs had only one chance TO score, but Friedman fumbled the ball on PENIS l yard line and Strauss punted out OF danger.
