November “a Notre Dame successfully invaded the east today for the second time this season. defeating the strong Washington and Jefferson College eleven by score of to 0. The conquerors of the Army, however. had to battle desperately to win from the Red and Black. 1t was the first time in seven years that Wash ington and Jefferson went down to defeat on its home grounds. and until the close of the contest the Pennsylvania team threatened to break through the Hoosier line defense, or, by the aerial route. score a touchdown. The for ward passes, however. proved of no avail and the w. and J. eleven dropped the game. A tackle by w. and J. man, after Brandy, the Notre Dame right half back, had signaled for a punt, proved the break that decided the contest Fifteen yards of a penalty was placed on w. and ]. for the tackle. Brandy then carried the ball through right guard for a few yards. bringing the pigskin to the 25-yard line. Two for ward passes failed and. taking advantage of the position. Brandy dropped back to the 33-yard line and kicked a goal from placement. the only score of the game.
