Fate Echols played offensive tackle at Northwestern (1958–61). The St. Louis Cardinals took Echols in the first round, No. 6 overall in the 1962 NFL Draft. The New York Titans also took him in round 3, No. 21 overall in the 1962 AFL Draft.
